FREAS A BIRD
So yes, I frequently judge books by their covers. No surprise there.
The distinctive artwork of Frank Kelly Freas (1922-2005) graced the covers of hundreds of books and magazines, most notably Astounding Science Fiction (and later, Analog) and Mad magazine.
His artwork for Queen's News of the World (1977) was essentially a redo of this Astounding Science Fiction cover (October 1953):
