As a kid, I didn't care much for The Addams Family television show. The Munsters was more my speed and trumped TAF in every way. I liked Fred Gwynne better than John Astin, preferred Yvonne De Carlo to Carolyn Jones, and thought Al Lewis was funnier than Jackie Coogan.
Once I discovered The New Yorker and fell in love with the magazine's writers and cartoonists, I developed a taste for Charles Addams' dark sense of humor.
